June 9 - Second Sunday Social Dance with Ranger and the Re-Arrangers.
Come 6:30-8:30 pm and be prepared to boogie to the sultry tunes of Ranger & gang. "Ranger and the “Re-Arrangers” evoke the spirit of a Paris cafĂ© and the raucous energy of a Romani campsite with their version of Hot Club Swing. “At the heart of their sound is Ranger Sciacca's sweet violin playing… his sense of melody and daring improvisations” (World Rhythm). The band’s repertoire includes swing standards, traditional European melodies, the music of Django Reinhardt, and Ranger's unique originals. Dances, as always, are free to the community, with donations gratefully accepted toward future live dance bands. Presented by Cheri & Doug Partner Dance.

QG FOOD BANK GARDEN NEWS
by Barbara Tusting
Rain, rain, rain. Will it ever end? We're not quite fed up with soggy
gardens yet, as some of our early spring crops are taking off with all the
moisture. But when can we put our squash starts out? Not until the soil
heats up to about 65° F say some experts. We may put out more tender plants a
tad earlier, but can cover them with cover cloth or gallon milk jugs or
something similar to raise the temperatures a bit for them. Putting your
heat-loving plants out too early will only stress them with survival,
instead of production.
That said, we have already started some of our fall & winter crops! We just started several types of brussels sprouts and cabbages. We use a number of different planting charts to guide our decisions. But then there's the weather, which is unpredictable. It's OK for something to not work out. "Mistakes are the portals of discovery" - James Joyce. We just keep planting and usually get something that works great. And we keep learning.
All the rain has also brought a bumper crop of Weeds. Any help that we can
get - even an hour or two - would be greatly appreciated so that we can
concentrate more on growing food than pulling weeds. Our garden hours are
Tuesdays & Fridays, 1-3:00 pm (or later). Come by any time for a tour and to help!
